On this day April 25th last season the Timbers open their season with a 1-0 loss up in Vancouver BC to the Whitecaps.
The Timbers are now 2-0 this season after a 3-0 victory over AC St. Louise last Thursday night. The starting lineup had some changes with George Jostem on the forward line. Brian Farber on the right side midfield. Tony McManus midfield. Scot Thompson right side defense, and Steve Purdy at central defender. With the depth the Timbers have this season we may see starting lineup changes every match. The Timbers scored less then a minute ito the match as Brian Farbar got pass his man on the right side crossed into O.J. Obatola who set up an easy score for Ryan Pore. Timbers had the better play of the first half and scored just before the half as Steve Josten found an open Ryan Pore who put in a easy goal.
Second half the Timbers were in control and took advantage of a poor clear by St. Louis that found Pore. Pore put in a soft cross to O.J. who scored in the 62nd minute of play.
The Timbers subbed in Matt Pyzdrowski in goal, Josh Cameron for Scot, Alex Nimo for Farber, Takayuki Suzuiki for O.J. at forward. Bright d**e made his firs appearance for the Timbers as he subbed out Josten. The Subs of Suzuki and d**e made no impact other then a yellow card on Suzuki which he deserved.
If you go to the match news page on the Timbers site, www.portlandtimbers.com/newsroom/pressreleases/index.html?article_id=1606 , at the bottom of the story they have their player ratings on the match. Other then the rating on Susuki I found them to be spot on. For some reason they felt Susuki played better then what I saw on the pitch.Ryan Pore keep getting better every time I see him play. It is good to see the Timbers score as well. Steve Cronin scored his second shutout after two matches due to the solid back line which played better this match. Player of this match was Ryan Pore.
Timbers continue league play today at Montreal who loss last Sunday 2-0 at Austin. Game time is at 11:00AM.
