Cascadia Match one in 2010 was a very good match by both sides with the Timbers Ryan Pore finding the net twice for the winning side. When the Whitecaps and Timbers come together for a match you know it will always be a good one win or loose. It did not take long for each team to score. The Whitecaps had a very good chance early as defender Zurab Tsiskaridze header hit the left post.

Ryan Pore placed the ball in the upper left corner of the goal with his free kick just out of the area in the 7th minute of play. Just minutes latter the Whitecaps would score as well. Martin Nash took the corner kick from the left side found defender Nelson Akwari who’s header found the net. The teams left the field at the half with a goal each.
Second half Pore had a strike in the 57th minute that required Whitecaps keeper Jay Nolly to make a driving save. the Timbers had a very good chance to go ahead as Doug DeMartin broke free inside the box but failed to put the ball pass Nolly. The Ref was handing out yellow cards like candy all night and a second yellow was given to Timbers defender Mamadou Danso in the 85th minute. The way the match was being called you knew it was a matter of time that someone would be sent off and it did. You would think with a man down the Timbers were done. A minute after Danso was sent off Ryan Pore’s header found the net. It was an amazing score that started with a long cross from midfielder James Marcelin on the right side. The cross found Pore who was clearly a foot above the rest of the platers fighting for the ball. The last time I saw a Timber make a header like that was when Peter Withe played back in 1975. Pore’s goal was magic something I have not seen for a long time.
Check out the match report on the Timbers main page and see the players ratings from the media this time around. This is the first time you see some players getting only a 5 out of 10. Makes me wonder if someone in the media group read my last post. Some of those players that got a 5 should have been rated higher and DeMartin’ was rated too high. He had a chance to score and muffed it. Shirt grabbing and all you score on chances like that.
Man of the match Ryan Pore.
Now today the Timbers have a friendly with Pumtarenas FC of Costa Rica. It is the top Club of the country so it should be an interesting match even with two of it’s stars playing on MLS teams. Look for the players who do not get playing time to get plenty this match.
7:00pm start time at PGE Park.
